Our Sustainability Programs
The Draft Code of Conduct is an initiative of the World Tourism
Organization (WTO) and ECPAT International, developed in the
countries of origin and countries of destination tourism. This
project seeks the participation and commitment of the tourism
industry to discourage and punish the commercial sexual exploitation
of children and adolescents associated with travel and tourism.
To subscribe to the Code of Conduct and enterprises must develop
the following Sign the Code of Conduct for the Protection of
Children and Adolescents against Commercial Sexual Exploitation in
Travel and Tourism
1. Train staff: Staff must have clear guidelines
and company policies regarding the protection of minors against
sexual exploitation and act as preventive agents of this problem
2. Place external symbols to alert its customers and suppliers about their
position against the commercial sexual exploitation of children and
adolescents: posters, talkative, leaflets, flyers, stickers,
warnings for websites, letterhead stationery, etc...
3. Fill in the contracts of providers of tourist services a clause declaring that the
rejection common to the commercial sexual exploitation of children
and adolescents.
4. Submit an annual report containing the actions carried out to fulfill the
commitments as a member of the Code.
No to
Prostitution
This is a program created and implemented by the Hotels Best
Western Irazu and Best Western Jaco Beach Resort, which seeks to discourage
any kind of sex tourism in Costa Rica, regardless of age.
Through this program:
1. Prevents access to the hotels of any person offering sexual
services.
2. Reporting to our customers in every possible way (travel
agencies, internet, stationery, etc.) about this policy.
3. Prohibiting staff participation in both hotels in any activity
related to sex tourism.
4. Inviting more tourism-related businesses to join this program.
Social Responsibility
Traffic
accidents have caused many deaths in recent years in
Costa Rica. In analyzing
the campaigns in recent years by the Government and some private
companies to raise awareness among drivers and pedestrians will be
able to identify that appeal to all the negative aspects of the
accidents (death, injury and material) to try to reduce accidents.
For this reason, the Hotels Best Western Irazú and Best Western
Jacó Beach, and they planned a campaign that takes responsibility
for driving all the positive aspects of life (family, friends,
dreams, etc.) to remind drivers why they should be responsible when
driving a vehicle. For this is given to drivers a "sticker" with the
logo of the campaign and a document with the commitments it entails
the use of the sticker on the vehicle.
These commitments are:
1. Always drive responsibly
2. Respect speed limits
3. Respect and obey traffic signals and road boundaries
4. Never drive under the influence of liquor.
Each year the campaign takes on roads, schools and transport
companies in the country, with the support of the mainstream media
and the government of Costa Rica.
Plus Education
People ready to
challenge the world"
In Costa Rica, education is free and compulsory, due to it costs
the school uniforms, supplies and equipment makes it almost
impossible to be in school when the family does not have enough
money to eat. Paradoxically, education is a key lifeline to the
precarious children to break the cycle of poverty. These children
and youth are at risk of ending in the streets, involved in
prostitution, drugs or crime.
Since January 1994, Education Plus is actively working to prevent
children and young people in precarious conditions to continue in the
classroom, away from the streets. Education Plus is a unique project,
with Christian foundations that seeks to provide holistic according
to the special needs of these communities.
The Hotels Best Western Irazú and Best Western Jacó Beach and
since 2007 support the work of the Plus Education Foundation in
Costa Rica through economic contributions, advice on different areas
(public relations strategies, marketing), supporting activities
(clubs, camps, special dates) and offers the possibility to kids who
completed the project to make college internships and be employed in
the hotels.
